Top Tips For Visiting The Boise Office
1. Make An Appointment
To avoid waiting in line, the SSA strongly encourages people who can, to use the online services, call the office, and schedule appointments in advance rather than walking in without an appointment. Phone appointments can save you a trip to a busy office.
Be aware, the Boise office tends to be busiest first thing in the morning, early in the week, and during the early part of the month. Consider planning to visit at other times.
2. Bring Necessary Documentation
When you call the SSA, be sure you to ask the representative what forms you will need to bring to your appointment. This will prevent you from having to come back again if you forget your documentation. Here are some documents you may need to bring: US birth certificate, US passport, Social Security Card, etc.
You can use this checklist to help you gather the information you need to apply. They request different documents depending on your circumstances. Remember that the SSA must see original document(s), or copies certified by the agency that issued them.
3. Write Down a List of Questions
This will make sure that you get all of your questions answered during your appointment and will save you time.
4. Be Prompt or Early
Whether you make an appointment or not, it’s always a good idea to show up 15 minutes early. You never know what kind of delays might come up on your way to the Boise office.
5. Be Polite and Patient
Keep in mind that the Claims Representative you speak to talks with a lot of people each day, and some of them are frustrated and difficult. Your patience and kindness will go a long way to helping you get the service you deserve and getting all your questions answered.

5 years agoI was really dreading my first visit to the local Social Security office, but my husband and I had some Medicare issues that we just couldn't resolve online. To our surprise the office was filled with very pleasant and knowledgeable people willing to help. From the guard's friendly greeting when we entered the office to the exceptional professional service and advice we received from Michael B. (who willingly left his desk to verify the answer to a question of which he was unsure and to find a better solution to our problem) we couldn't have had a better experience. Kudos to the Boise SSO!!!!!

4 years agoHad to change auto deposit account but was only given the following month after the next deposit as an option. Today, I called the Boise, ID local office & spoke with "Dan". He was so helpful, changed the account number for the next auto deposit. It was completed in a matter of 3 minutes! Painless!!! Thank you, Dan, & thank you, SSA.

4 years agoI have recently had to contact Social Security for an incorrect notice of earnings under 2014-7 nontaxabe income. I have made several phone calls to get information to verify 2014-7 over the phone. I was pleasantly surprised with the courteous personnel I spoke to on the phone. I sent the information and also went to the Social Security office early. They open at 9am and I was there and so were at least fifty others ahead of me. Thankfully, there was a very kind security guard there who asked if I had an appointment. I told him no and by the looks of the standing room only I didn't think I'd get a chance to speak to anybody to give them my paperwork. He brought me over an envelope and told me to fill out the front and put my paperwork in the envelope and just drop in box.I did not eve see the box with the wall to wall people. Boom...just like that. I got it filled out and dropped off. Saved me hours of waiting! Kudos to him for going above and beyond!

4 years agoI called the Boise Social Security Office to clarify a question I had on suspending benefit payments. I had gone on line and there was no clear answer to my question. I called the National line and was put on an hour wait list. My called to the local office was answered right away and the representative was able to answer with explanations within about 3 minutes. The call answered my questions, was quick and courteous. Thanks
